Fabrication and Applications for a Dual Source Electrospinning Apparatus
As part of a Discovery Learning Apprenticeship, I was responsible for the design and fabrication of an electrospinning apparatus. I also assisted in the analysis of research and industrial applications of the apparatus, and quickly realized the immense potential for this technology.
Applications and Research Interests
Because of the complexity and number of parameters involved in dual source electrospinning, customization of material makeup and properties is uniquely flexible. Examples of applications include synthetic blood vessels, tissue engineering grafts, and special purpose textiles.
Design and Fabrication
I used solidworks to model components and their interactions, and used machine-shop techniques to fabricate them. This included milling, lathing, as well as laser cutting an environmental chamber to contain the electrospinning apparatus
