Token
PHYSICAL COMPUTING | INTERACTION DESIGN | SYSTEMS PROTOTYPING
Project Token was completed as part of my thesis work at Stanford. In it, we sought to create a new platform for family members to interact and share their lives. In an age where families are increasingly remotely located, we noticed that the generational differences in mediums and methods that people use to communicate makes meaningful contact difficult.

Project Token consists of a "dashboard" like touch screen. The frame of that touch screen has two NFC enabled readers, and magnetically attracts physical objects called "tokens" that represent either a loved one, or a way to interact with them. For example, I could place my father's token on one reader, and the chess token on the other, and play a chess game with him. If I wanted to see a trip he sent me, I just need to place the trip token in place of the chess token to pull up an interactive map of his travels.
In this way, interacting with personalized digital media is radically simplified. Please see the demo video below to see our fully functional prototype.
